VINCENNES, Ind. - The 日韩中文字幕福利片 Women鈥檚 Basketball team missed its first
six shots from the field Tuesday night, but quickly recovered.
After the sluggish start, the Trailblazers rolled to a 104-37 rout of visiting Lindsay
Wilson JV inside the PE Complex.
With the win, VU improved to 3-0 on the season and has surpassed the 100-point plateau
in all three games.
鈥淲e shot the ball so bad the first seven or eight minutes,鈥 Trailblazers coach Harry
Meeks said. 鈥淲e just couldn鈥檛 make a shot. But once we started getting some of those
shots to fall, the whole game started to turn.鈥
VU led just 15-8 after the first quarter.
Diamond Fields knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to start the second quarter, the
Trailblazers defense cranked up the pressure.
VU came away with five straight steals and turned all of them into points in part
of a 23-2 run for a commanding 41-11 advantage.
The Trailblazers led 53-21 at intermission.
鈥淭he defensive effort has been there all season,鈥 Meeks said. 鈥淲e were able to get
a lot of those steals around midcourt and those are just devastating for the other
team because usually they turn into layups and that is what we did.鈥
For the game, VU came away with 28 steals.
Jaynice Stovall led the defensive assault with 10 steals. The sophomore guard also
scored a game-high 23 points and came two assists shy of recording a triple double
with eight assists.
鈥淪he was able to tip a lot of balls up court and chase them down for layups,鈥 Meeks
said of his guard. 鈥淪he did a nice job defensively tonight and also was able to knock
down some jumpers. That is what we need from her. I told her at the beginning of the
season we need 12-15 points from her every night.鈥
All 12 VU players scored in the game.
Cristina De La Cruz-Fuente came off the bench to add 14 points, while Fess Hawkins
(13) and Jhala Henry (11) combined for 24 points.
The Trailblazers connected on 44 of 89 shots from the field and assisted on half of
the made buckets.
鈥淲e don鈥檛 have a ball stopper on this team,鈥 Meeks said. 鈥淭hey don鈥檛 have a problem
sharing the ball and they are always looking for the open player. They are good teammates
to one another.鈥
VU also controlled the glass. The Trailblazers held a 47-27 edge in rebounds, including
21 off the offensive glass.
The schedule becomes more rigorous as VU travels to Panama City, FL. over the weekend
to play Gulf Coast and Northwest Florida.
鈥淲ith a little bit of experience I think we will be OK,鈥 Meeks said of the upcoming
Florida trip. 鈥淚 like the upside of this team and they are playing with a lot of effort
right now.鈥
